putting photos into autoshapes

I publish a newsletter for a charity and would like to improve and vary the
presentation. How do I make a standard photo go into an oval or other
autoshape? I have done it once but can't recreate it. I have windows XP,
publisher 03 and works suite 04. My photos are usually JPEG.
