PWA and MS Project

B

Bhavtosh

hello,
i've setup PWA on a moss server named S1 and i have another machine M1 in
the same network to access PWA site

on M1 i have project pro 2007 installed. to start i made resource list with
different roles on server in order to use it on M1

i made a sample project and upload it on pwa site. now here i want to know
more about;

1. as a manager when i open the project from pwa on the client machine im
able to update it but other project members cant see the changes provided
they are already added to that project?

2. how can i implement a workflow to that project so that project lead can
also edit the project?

3. is there a difference between pwa tasks and ms project tasks? if yes then
do co-relate them?

Hi Bhavtosh,
1. I don't understand this question - please re-word and we'll do our best
to help.
2. You need to modify the permissions to do this, and may be create a new
group called Project Leads. Note that one project can only have one PM at a
single time, but multiple people can have the rights to edit it.
3. PWA tasks - if you mean the tasks with My Tasks part of PWA then the
answer is No, if you mean tasks as part of a document workspace, then the
answer is Yes - they are different and you cannot synchronise them.

hi ben,
to your replies in same order;

1. as a manager if edits the project plan from pwa then it will open in the
client project application so after updating the project in terms of dates,
more tasks etc when the manager checks in the project then what happens? will
others get to know about it via alerts or what?

2. it is clear :)

3. it is clear now; so if the tasks in the project plan are different from
ms project then what is the benefit of two separate ways of creating tasks?

in addition to this i have few more queries in incremental for the ease of
following up;

4. say i have 5 tasks in my project plan [not pwa tasks] and are assigned to
team members; when i check in the project plan then how those tasks are sent
to members? and how are they going to update it?

5. baseline feature is present in pwa also? if not then how team members can
view the previous versions of the project plan from pwa as they dont have ms
project installed in their machines?

Hi Bhavtosh,

1. the manager will need to publish the project as usual.
4. team members - do you mean a team assingment pool? I blogged using this
feature several years ago so it is worth looking that up.
5. No, baselines are only available via Project Professional.
