PWA crashes IE

Has anyone experienced any problems similar to the following?

I have a user with the following computer:
Windows 2000 Professional SP4, fully updated via Automatic Updates and
manual Office updates
Office 2000 Professional SP<whatever the latest is>
Project Professional 2003 SP1
Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (v 6.00.1011.blah blah blah)

Our Project Server 2003 server:
Windows 2003 Server Standard
Project Server 2003 (maybe SP1, I can't remember, but it has all updates so
if SP1 was available, that's what it is)

Whenever this particular user is using PWA, IE crashes whenever he clicks on
a toolbar tab that opens a page displaying a Project frame (Tasks, Projects,
etc.). No specifics are given regarding any errors, just the standard
out-of-the-box "Internet Explorer has experienced an error...". The Event
log just shows a Microsoft Internet Explorer Event 1000, once again with no
specific information related to the crash. When adding a folder to his
Outlook 2000, and using the PWA Home Page as the folder's home page,
everything works perfectly as it should. So, it works fine in Outlook but
not at all in IE.

I am thinking that the problem might be that the user does not have Office
2003 on his computer. I am fixing to install it to test to see if it fixes
the problem. If it does fix the problem, well, what kind of crap is that?
Can MS not make newer versions of software backwards compatible with older
versions of Office? So now I have to spend hundreds of dollars on licensing
to allow this one user to use PWA? That's borderline criminal, like
extortion. It's very upsetting.

If that doesn't fix the problem, well, ignore my babbling.

I have experienced this error.

Try using Microsoft Outlook to access PWA as a workaround.

Does your user use Google toolbar or other pop-up blocker? I have
heard, from people who know PWA very well, that this can cause
problems, including crashes. I use Google toolbar myself and haven't
had an issue. You might check this out, just to eliminate a possible
cause.

Thanks Mark. Yes, he does use the Google toolbar, but even when disabled
the crash is still occurring.

For future reference:
I did try installing Office 2003 and the crash was still occurring. This
particular user has added numerous software titles to his computer and has
modified the registry in the past. I am chalking this problem up to either
software incompatibility or to the fact that the registry has been modified.
That's just easier than troubleshooting the problem for countless hours, and
since it works fine in Outlook I'll just leave it at that.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions :]

I recently had this problem with 2 user.

Uninstall google and reboot. This will solve your problem.

This is an active x issue. My guess is active x is tighly controlled in your
organization as it is in ours

Good Luck
Clara
