Query - re page numbering

A friend at work has a problem with consecutive page numbering in
portrait and landscape page layouts in a document.
We hope someone can help
Here is the problem in her own words :

"Originally this document was set up in Corell Wordperfect. This
document has now been saved as a Word document.

This document starts off in portrait, changes to landscape and then
alternates during the rest of the document.

There is a header and footer that has been set up. When the footer
gets to the landscape pages it is not in the centre of the page i.e.
thinks it is still portrait. When I change the footer on the
landscape page it alters the portrait location of the footer.

How do I only change the page numbering i.e. footer on the landscape
pages so that it doesnt affect the portrait page numbering?"

Thanks

Also, if the document was originally WordPerfect, the page numbers are
probably inside of text boxes. That's what happens when you convert
WordPerfect to Word. You may need to delete the box containing the number
and re-insert the page numbers through the footer, and not through Insert,
Page Numbers.

That can also be true if you have used Insert | Page Numbers in
Word--another reason we don't recommend it.
