Question about setting tasks completed

Hello

I have been trying to figure this out sometime on my own but I still cannot
get it right even after a lot of trial and horror (unfortunately I am not
trained in MSP).

I want to close down a task which was originally scheduled to be finished in
the year 2008 (by mistake probably) so that users will not be able to report
hours against that task anymore (i.e. make it vanish on PWA which is equally
important). If I mark the task completed as of now (setting Act. Finish field
to today), the value in actual work field jumps up (probably corresponding to
the scheduled work during this period, actual duration). Task type setting
does not seem to make much difference.

What I would like to have is that 1) actual work submitted by my resources
stays intact and 2) the task is completed and disappears from PWA timesheet
(optional: 3) work = actual work).
