question on controlling a tasks duration

Is there a way to get the duration to be calculated so that its start date is based on one task and its finish date is based on the other ? For example for
start finis
task
task2 2/6/04 2/6/04
task3 2/15/04 2/15/0
I want the duration to autoadjust so its start date is based on task2 and its finish date based on task3 s
for the above it would be automatically set
task1 2/6/04 2/15/04 and duration =10 days
I tried using precedessors but that only seems to control the start date of task1 and without a duration I can't set the
finish date. I really want both the start and finish to be based on a precedessor. Anyway to do this

What you want is called a Hammock task. You can find more here
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
at item 19: Hammock Tasks.
