Questions on publishing and site/computer differences

My site was already created and was handed off to me with
no experience or training. I feel like I am managing to
really mess it up!

I have a few questions. Everything works fine when
looking at the website stored on my computer, however on
my actual site things work differently and the links are
different.

I am thinking one of the reasons the sites are different
is... I have a root web and a sub web. Is it possible
that if I was in the sub web when I published to my site
(being the root web) and I didn't notice, that my sub web
published in my root web so I have those pages now in both
places rather than just in my subweb? The sub web is
password protected now, so I really don't want people to
have access to those pages, but have been careful what to
put on them. I can't get a backup because I think I did
this last year, but didn't realize what I had done. And,
if that is the case, what would be the best way to get rid
of those pages from my root web so they only appear in the
sub web? They are only in the sub web on the site on my
computer.

Other issue... I had previously said one of my pages had a
conflict status when I went to publish so I did what was
suggested indicating changed pages but still had
problems. In my banner across the top, there were links
to pages. All those pages have now lost their side
buttons. On my computer they are fine. Maybe this whole
subweb publishing error I did is the cause of most of my
problems???

I have also noticed that after I publish the site, if I
look at it in AOL and go to my website I don't see the
published site usually. When I go to it using internet
explorer directly without using aol I see my updates.
Don't understand why that is.

Any help is GREATLY apprecaited!!! I think I really do
need to find a class for Front Page.

Yes you need can accidentally publish a web/subweb to the wrong level
- always check your destination when choosing File Publish
Open your root web and File Publish al including subwebs (overwrite any nav changes)

AOL caches pages so they will always be out of date
