Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Each time I launch Excel, it opens a series of half-dozen Word docs and says they're in the wrong format. No kidding. How do I stop this activity?

Check Excel> Preferences - It sounds like you have that folder set as the
Open All Files In path... either that or you've been saving your Word
documents in teh Excel Startup folder.

I had the same problem. Excel was opening all files in the home documents folder. I had the preferences for the "Open files at this location" set to my documents folder. I deleted the entry that pointed to Macintosh HD:Users:User_Name:Documents: and now Excel opens up with a blank worksheet.
