Rate of production vs workload

Hi all

Project 2000

Is it possible to add a number field and put in, say, the total number of
units, and assign a resource to produce those units, but have MS Project
monitor that the maximum possible rate of producing said units is not
exceeded for that resource?

I know what I want to acheive, but I'm not familiar with how it can be done
with automatically.

Say 'Crew A' can produce 100units per week, I have 1000 units total to be
produced at different parts of my site, some sets of units are larger than
others. I have to give to Crew A enough work to have them fully occupied.

Can I input the size of the set of units somewhere and the production rate
for Crew A and let Project tell me where I have problems?
Or
Must I work durations based on the size of the set of units and let Crew A
be fully occupied on each task?

I hope I've explained it well enough.

I'm guessing that there's a place to enter the rate of production for a
resource, and a place to say how much of the output is to be produced, and
Project will tell me if my Crew cannot meet the tasks being assigned to it.

Thanks in advance

Hi Kevin,

Unfortunately, what you hope for isn't there, and altering key variables
such as Work or Duration cannot be done through a formula either.
To do what you need you can only use a VBA procedure. If you're a little bit
familiar with that I can put you on the way. Just tell me here.

No worries

I'll work out the durations for each task based on what I know to be the
amount of production to be achieved and take it from there....
I thought that that was a realatively common requirement of a schedule and
so it was just a matter of learning how to do it. I was hoping that if i
knew the maximum rate of production, and the amount of work to be produced,
that somewhere I could have everything done automatically.
Thanks though.

I'll make a spreadsheet and obtain draft durations.
