Read Only

When I save my excel work, why does it always come up
as "read only" when I bring it back up again?

I have copied excel from other disks that were not
affected by this and after I use it and save, reopen it
again it comes up read only?

Thank you, Jerry

Hi Jerry,

When you open the file, click on File -> Save as and in the save as
window, click on Tools-> General Options.

Then uncheck the "read-only recommended" and then save the file again.

Govind.

Are you saving the file to a CD or opening the file from a CD?

First of all.......you should never save to or open from removable media
directly.

Save to HDD then copy to the CD. Same when opening. Copy to HDD then reset
the "read-only" then open.

The read only bit.......

That is the default behaviour when saving/copying to CD.

All depends upon how the files get "burned" to the CD.

With regular Windows burning, they will always be read-only.

If you were to use a packet writing application like Nero InCD, files would
not be read only and individual files could be erased or written to on the CD
just like a big floppy disk.
