Read/Unread preferences not responding.

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange Since the latest Office update last week (3/11) my preferences for read/unread email are no longer responsive. I just want email to remain unread until I open them. This is the way it was set prior to the latest update. I have unchecked the appropriate box in the preferences window, checked and unchecked a few times, rebooted after making changes, nothing. I also attempted to color code new unread/read messages and see no response.

I went so far as to create an e-mail rule for the account to force all new messages to be marked as unread. Still nothing. Any advice?

This is an odd behavior after an update. I would normally advise you to
rebuild your database, but since this is an Exchange account I suggest
creating a new Identity and letting Entourage download all your messages
again from the server. Entourage stores some preferences inside the
database and rebuilding frequently doesn’t repair preferences.

Optimize Entourage to better work with Exchange

If the problem remains in a new Identity then it is something in your
User's folder. Let me know if the new Identity fixes the issue.

Things have actually gotten worse! Now all of my new email messages are going into the inbox "on my computer" instead of the inbox set up from the server. This can't be good. Any other suggestions?

This sounds like a Mailing List Manager rule that is moving all messages
to the Inbox.

You didn't indicate if you tried in a new User.
