I should have left it alone, it was working fine. But I rebuilt the database and now entourage wont even start. I get the following message...

Microsoft Entourage has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The first thing I notice is you have never updated Office 2004. You always
need to update to get improvements. You need the following updaters:

11.5.0
11.5.1
11.5.2
11.5.3

It's possible after you update that your database will work, but you might
have to go back to the safety backup that Entourage created. It's also
possible by using the old database utility that you hosed your original
copy.

Main [Backed up date and time will be shown] e.g. Main [Backed up 1-21-2007
13.35]

See this page for links to updaters:

Thanks Diane,

I had been using the Auto Updater to keep my version of office current.

Word and Excel are both version 11.5.3.

I downloaded the 11.5.0 updater that you provided a link to, but since word and excel are both current it tells me that it can't find a program to update.

Is there a stand alone updater for Entourage, or do I need to backtrack somehow?

Thanks for your help.

I have used the uninstall office program that was included on my install disk and uninstalled all office components, or so I thought.

After reinstalling Office 2004, Word and Excel are still version 11.5.3.

Is there something else to delete that the uninstall program misses?

Other that completely wiping my harddrive and reinstalling all the software I have installed, I don't know what to do next. I really don't want to wipe my harddrive, or get a new computer just to use entourage.

Any ideas?

If your "About Entourage" window (under the Entourage menu) shows Version
11.4.0 (080122), you are up-to-date as far as Entourage is concerned. There
have been no updates to Entourage since then.

11.5.3 is the latest version of Word and Excel, released this month. 11.4.0
is the latest version of Entourage.

I think I've got it going my way now!

I found instructions for a more complete uninstall on Microsoft's site...

Uninstall Office 2004 for Mac

1. In the Finder, select /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004, and then on the File menu, click Move to Trash.
2. Select /Users/user_name/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Microsoft Office Settings (11), and then on the File menu, click Move to Trash.
3. Select /Users/user_name/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/com.microsoft.office.prefs.plist, and then on the File menu, click Move to Trash.
4. On the Finder menu, click Empty Trash.

After I did as Microsoft suggested, I was able to reinstall Office and open entourage. It's now updating items from the Exchange Server.

After that, I'll install updates and be good to go.

Thanks for your help.
