received email with a dat.file can't open,help please

I have received an email containing some statistics, they have been sent in
dat. file and I cannot open it as I am getting a message saying I have no
previewer can anyone help please.

What email client are you using?

are not transmittable in their
original state.

what the sender needs to do is
zip the file and send it to you.

Is the sender using Outlook? If yes, ask the sender to change his/her
email format from Rich Text to either Plain Text or HTML, and then send
you the statistics again.

Or IIRC, instead of sending the email as an attachment, to copy the content and
paste it into a new email.
