Receiving e-mail

Hi, I just got a laptop and have been setting it up. I
set up my e-mail settings exactly the same as my home
computer settings. However, when I click on the
send/receive button a message comes up that
the "operation failed." Strangely, when I run the "test
settings" it indicates that all the processes completed
successfully. Any ideas on what is wrong?
