Hello. I am having a problem sending attachments
such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint files. For some
reason nobody can open the attachments that I send to
them. For example, I just sent a PowerPoint file to a
friend and though it showed up with the name:
roughdraft004.ppt she could not open the file. Also,
quite frequently files that I send will show up in
people's inboxes as .dat files (which they cannot
open). This does not happen to everyone. At first I
thought it was just an issue with sending files to
hotmail users, but then I found that some of them have no
problems opening my files at all. There is nothing wrong
with my files. If I send them by going online to my
Hotmail account, people receive them and can open them
without difficulties. However, if I use Microsoft
Outlook 2003 to send the file through my Hotmail account
(or any other account), some people cannot open my
files. Please, if anyone happens to know the reason that
this is happening, I would love to know. Thank you very
much.

For the .dat file problem:
Try using Plain Text or HTML format to send your attachment.

To change the format of your email:
Open TOOLS | OPTIONS... | MAIL FORMAT

For the other problem...Do they have Microsoft Word and/or
PowerPoint programs on their computers to be able to read them?

Yes, actually they do have Microsoft Office on their
computers. So, it seems as though it should work, but it
doesn't. But, about the Winmail.dat thing... It is the
actual attachments that are being converted to .dat
files, not the text. Oh, and I think my format was set
to HTML by default. I went to change it, and it was
already there. I just tried sending the same file that I
sent to a friend earlier (who could not open it) to
myself, and it opens just fine. This problem is very
annoying. Thank you very much for your response... I
appreciate all the help I can get.
