Recover Document

I have saved and printed a document that took many hours of work and when I
re-opened the doc it gave an error message and the document is just a series
of lines & garbage.

Can I get it back.

Have you tried opening it using the file type "Recover text from any document"?
That would be pretty much your only chance. Although you could also try using
Insert/File from within another document.
