Recovering email from backup outlook database on external disk.

Some folders and Emails have been inadvertantly deleted from my Outlook
database. I have a recent backup of my entire system on an external disk
drive, but I cannot find any information on how to recover individual folders
and emails from within the outlook database on my external drive. If I could
open Outlook using the external disk backup database, I could archive the
missing folders and emails then restore them on my primary Outlook database,
but I cannot find a way to open the backup database.
This is a local system, not connected to an exchange server.

what backup software do you use? you will probably need to extract the
pst - if it wants to use the same location you use now, rename the current
pst (with outlook closed), extract the backup and rename it to backup.pst,
then restore the other pst file name. open the backup pst using file, open,
outlook data file.
