recovery

I have a hard drive on which Windows XP has become
damaged. (Won't boot, even in SAFE mode.) I want to
recover documents so I put that drive in another machine
as a secondary drive. I can get to everything but the My
Documents folder, where I get Access Denied. What do I
need to do to get into that folder so I can copy off my
documents? (Most were backed up, but a few new ones are
important to me and I really want to recovery them.)

Hi jdsheetz

"My Docments" isn't actually a folder. It's a kind of shortcut to a real
folder that you'll probably find at [OldDrive]:\Documents and Settings\user
name\My Documents.

By the way, if you had Word templates or customizations you would like to
retrieve, you can find them at the locations described at

What files do I need to back up?

Hope this helps.

If Shauna's suggestion doesn't help, you would be better asking this
question in a Windows XP newsgroup.
