Registration Feature On FP2003

We want to set up a members only section on our site and
restrict entery only to members who are listed in our data
base. Question: do we have to use Share Point to do this?
Our WebHost uses Unix and cannot handle SharePoint.
Your advise/suggestions will be appreciated.
