Remaining work in Timesheet - Infrastructure update

C

Chris C

Hello everyone.
Just installed infrastructure update and added remaining work to the
timesheet view .
2 issues:

1-It is in days and the rest of the info is in hours in the timesheet.
Anybody knows how to change remaining work in hours in the timesheet ?

2-If it is displayed in days, the value displayed is not the same as in My
Tasks or in the project plan. Project starts with the remaining work in
hours from the plan (assignement) and converts it based on an 8hour/day
calendar (which is not our case...). So 7h or work remaining becomes .875d in
My timesheet. Anybody else noticed this ?

Suggestions welcome...

Tx in advance

Chris

Chris,

Thanks for sending out your findings on the infrastructure update. It is
valuable information for all of us to have.

1) In My Tasks there is a web part option to change the Work or Duration
formats to Hours. While in "My Tasks" go to Site Actions>Edit Page and edit
the My Tasks web part. I am wondering if the same feature might now be
available in My Timesheets. I know it wasn't before but thought you might
check.

2) Sounds like the Infrastructure update did not take into account some very
basic concepts like using the appropriate calendar working times. This
sounds like another bug in the tool that needs to be submitted to Microsoft.
Sorry to say.

Chris,

For you second issue, trying playing with the option under Server
Settings>Timesheet Settings and Defaults>

Under the section "Default Reporting Units" you can specify the timesheet
translation of standard hours per day and per week. Change it to 7 and 35
and see if this fixes your problem of showing inaccurate durations.

As long as you enforce all resources and schedules to run on this type of
schedule, this should work for you.

Jonathan,

We are already setup as 7h/day and 35/week in the server settings for the
timesheet defaults. It seems like the application has an "8h/40h" settings
hard coded somewhere when you display value in Days. You can still type in
values in hours but the display remains in Days based on 8h per day.

I also tried to modify the Web Part, but it does not have the same options
as the My Task one - re: Changing days to Hours -

Again, thanks for the information, it helps all of us out tremendously.

Hi,

we are also seeing the same issue with our customers who have installed the
IU (as well as in our own internal dev env).
This applies also to the My Tasks page, which (also) seems to use the
Project's calendar/Global setting as a basis for the 8/40 when entering
actual work in days.

In hours everything works fine, but there's somewhere an "incorrect"
calendar used when days is the unit for actual work.
