Remove Country/Area Code from contacts

Is it possible to remove the area code field automatically included in the
phone number field when creating a new contact? Mobile/cell numbers are
displayed incorrectly and show the first two numbers as part of the area
code. Many thanks

Uncheck that option in Outlook's Dialing options... (Contacts > Actions >
Call Contact > New Call...)
