Remove project from Master

Hello,

How can I see and remove projects that are linked to a master project?

I created a shared resource pool, assigned resources from the pool to two
different projects, then pulled both projects in to a Master.

Along the way, I must have either changed a name of one of the children
projects or pulled a duplicate of one of the child projects in to the Master.

Whenever I change and save the Master now, and am prompted to update the
children and the resource pool, I end up with all resources over-allocated
because two of the children projects show up in the master after the update.

Following the update, I see the extra project linked in the resource pool
and break the link, but it re-appears each time the Master is saved.

I appreciate any help.

Regards,
Tom

Tom,
First of all if you are using Project 2003, make sure you have update
SP-2 installed. If not, install it.

Do you actually see one of the subprojects replicated in the master? If
so, select the summary line insertion point of one of the duplicates and
go to Project/Task Information/Advanced tab. Uncheck the "Link to
Project" option and hit "OK". Then open the common resource pool and go
to Tools/Share Resources and break the line to the subproject you just
unlinked from the master, if it still appears.

If these steps don't resolve the problem, you probably have corruption
in the common resource pool and/or the master and subprojects. Go to our
MVP website at: http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
and take a look at FAQ 43 - File Bloat? Might be corruption.
You may need to re-establish the shared resources after you clear
corruption, and it might be a good idea to re-build the master, but
don't duplicate one of the subprojects this time.

Hope this helps.

Hi John,

Thanks for the detailed response. While the steps didn't specifcally solve
the problem, they did lead me to a solution. I'd only been opening the
resource pool file when the master file was opened. I'd break the link to
the old sub-project in the resource pool, but it would not be saved when it
was opened by the master.

I opened the resource pool on it's own while pursuing the corruption steps,
then tried breaking the link once more and saving the pool independent of the
master or other subs. This worked out well, as the pool no longer is linked
to the old sub project when opening it via any method.

Thanks for pushing me in the right direction!
