Repaired XP...Office won't load?

SIW

I had to run a XP-Pro repaire, and while many of my programs run fine, Office
won't load. I get a message to install it at the start-up. The files are
all there in the "program" folder, but they won't load.

Do I have to reinstall (uninstall first?), and go through all the updates,
customizations, blah blah blah? God I hope not!

The reason for the "repair" was due to a flipping web site with virus
downloads.

Umm, maybe the original problem was downloading programs from risky sites
and not having an up-to-date anti-virus?

I had a anti virus running, and the notification windows went
crazy........couldn't stop them...so I did a manual shut down, and the messed
up everything!

What AV program are you using? Do you keep it updated?

avg free. I seem to have gotten rid of the virus, just that office won't
load. ACAD does. Java won't. Guess I have to re install the one's that
won't load, and deal with all the updates and recustomization?

A XP repair installation does not always take well. I'm in the same boat. My
mainboard died and I had to get a replacement fast which was a different
brand of board. The repair install got me up and running in a day, but the
OS has been quirky ever since. There are many duplicate devices, files, and
registry entries left behind that interfere with the system. I know I need
to do a fresh reinstall of the OS but am holding off for some of the same
reasons you have. I'm keeping the whole thing going with duct tape a chewing
gum until I can find a big chunk of time to devote to the project, and get
some updated applications while I'm at it.
Maybe someone here will directly answer your question, but in the meantime:
I suspect that the Office program thinks it has been installed on a second
computer because of the repair install, or whatever process is checking is
confused by the change in environment. You may need to reinstall the office
program or re-activate it. Did Office come installed on your computer? Do
you have the installation disks? Hopefully one of the MVP's here will
address this topic for you (and me).
