"Repeat last function" key?

Recently switched form PC. Using Office X on OS 10.3.4.
On the PC version of Word (et al), one could press the F4 key and repeat the
last function. This was useful for adding multiple new rows to an Excel
spreadsheet or turning selected text to bold or italic, or whatever.
Is there a similar keystroke on the Mac? I haven't been able to locate it.
Thanks.

Under the Edit menu is a "Repeat ______" depending on what you just did, and
if it's repeatable. The shortcut is Apple-Y.
