replies from subfolders of the inbox do not show up in the sent folder

This happens on a XP running outlook 2000 9.0.0.2711
system and started during todays business. Messages
replied to from the inbox folder are copied to the sent
items folder. the save copy to Sent folder option is on
and verified. There are no rule settings!!!!!
