Replying to an email hangs my computer

I am having an intermittent and recurring problem when replying to emails.
When I hit send I get an hourglass and the system hangs. I have to go to
Task Manager to close down Outlook. Has anyone ever run into this problem
and are there any suggestions how to address it?
