Hi Community,

I already posted this question and got an answer that didn't work, so I
replied to that and haven't heard back, so I thought I would start a new
thread so maybe my question would be seen again! Okay, I have Vista
(purchased a brand new Dell laptop w/ Vista Basic installed on it), and I am
desperatley trying to download the trial version of MSOffice 2007 Home and
Student version. I had MSOffice 203 Trial that came with my previous laptop
which had XP and crashed three weeks in, so I used the trial on the new
laptop with Vista, and it worked for a week, then my computer said a program
was conflicting with my OS, and I assumed it was the MSOffcie 2003 because
that stopped working all together, plus once I uninstalled the MSOffice 2003,
the problem ceased. So, I have tried three times to install the MSOffice 2007
(yes, I uninstalled it each time before trying to reinstall). Each time I
have the same two problems: #1 I canot activate the Power Point (and all of
the others except Word ie. One Note, and such) when I try to
register/activate, the option of doing so by telephone is not highlighted,
forcing me to do so by internet, then it says it is having a communication
error and to try abck in a few minutes, and still won't connect. My internet
connection is perfect, so I am stumped. Prolem #2: My MSWord will not work at
all. When I open it, it opens half way (fills the bottom half of the screen)
then if I click anywhere, it fills the screen, but says "Not Responding" at
the top right corner next to where it says Microsoft Word. It will sit like
that forever, until I try to close it, then I have the three options that
Vista gives you for a non-responsive program, 1: Try to find a solution via
the internet then restart (which I did countless times to no avail), 2: Close
the program(which I aso have done) 3: Wait for the program to respond (also
done to no avail). I have gone to the help forrums and deleted the OPA12.dat
file that the help blogs told me to saying it contained some liscensing info
that could affect the programs, and that did not help either. Please help me,
I am a college student and desperatley need the MSWord and Power Point ASAP,
and cannot afford to go and buy it for a few more weeks. To be honest I am
nervous about buying a hard copy for $159 and having that not work, and
possibly being unable to return it! Please any suggestions, would be greatly
appreciated! Thank You, Trinitylynne

Hi Lynne,

For trial software only online activation is supported so the phone choice being greyed out is normal.

It's possible that it's something in your Vista setup rather than Office that is an underlying cause.

You may want to uninstall, then use the MS Installer cleanup utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us?FR=1
to remove the Office 2003 and 2007 listings then restart the PC before installing again. Do not use any 3rd party 'helpful'
registry cleaners, they often break more than the help when it comes to Office.

Check your firewall settings to be sure that the Office apps and activation process are allowed to go through the firewall.
