Resetting Unique ID to ID by Insert Project

Neill

A while back, maybe a year or so, I asked the question on this forum of how
to make the Unique ID the same as the ID. I was told that by inserting an
existing project into a new project file that the UIDs 'reset' themselves to
be the same as the ID. I did this back then and IT WORKED! However I tried
it today on MS Project 2003 Standard as before and the UIDs were still the
same as what they were in the old file. What gives? Any suggestions on what
I may have done wrong?

Hi Neil,

The unique IDs in the master project only seem to get reset if you
remove the link to the inserted project. Double click on the inserted
project summary task. Click on the Advanced tab, uncheck the Link to
Project check box.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Neill,
The key to doing this is to make sure you uncheck the "link to project"
option in the lower right of the Insert Project window. That creates a
static consolidation rather than a dynamic one. You will see that the
resulting static file has Unique ID numbers that now track the ID
numbers.

Thanks Julie and John! That was the step I'd forgotten to take. I knew there
was something else!

I did indeed, John. Now what I am waiting for is the punch line to "How
many MVPs does it take ....." :)
