Resource availability problem

Hi I am trying to set a resources availability from 3/8/04 on to 50% availability. I went into the Resource sheet, selected the resource and updated the availability table by entering 3/8/04 in the Available From column, bypassing the Available To column and then entering 50% for the percentage. I click OK but the resoure is still being assigned the full amount of work hours for the tasks scheduled after 3/8/04. What am I doing wrong?

Hello,
You changed the availability of the resource after 3/8/04. That's all. MS
Project will not take the initiative of changing your assignments. It'll
just notify the over-allocation : now the resource name is red in the
Resource Sheet.

So does this mean that I have to manually go in and update the time? Is this happening because I didn't set the availability to 50% at the start? Going forward if I have a resource that I know is only going to be available part of the time and set the % available accordingly will MS-Project still allocate the resource for the full amount of hours? If so, what is the point of setting the resource availability?

Yes, you'll have to manually go in and update the time. But if a task
doesn't span over a period of time with 2 different Max units (1 and 0,5
after 3/8/04 ), you can remove the old assignment and do another one : Ms
Project will respect the availability.
