Resource Availability

MS Proj Pro 2003 WITHOUT the Project Server.
I have a project file (.mpp) which I use as a resource pool and have a
number of projects using this file as the resource pool. When I make a new
resource available from a particular date ( a future date) or when I increase
or decrease availability on a resource from a particular date ( a future
date), the effect of that is not reflected after levelling. The altered
resource status takes effect only when I change the availability dates to the
current date or a past date. "How do I use a future date for resource
availablity and see the effect of that in my schedules?" I have not altered
the status date to any future date and I prefer not to tamper with the status
date because I use it for other purposes of rescheduling.

Hi,

Indeed, "normal" scheduling ignores availability but resource leveling
should take this into account.
Are you sure the "Pool takes preference" flags are all on?

Yes, the "Pool takes preference" flags are ON. Is there any other option that
I need to check? In the levelling options, "level within available slack" is
unchecked at the moment. I uncheck it sometimes. Would this have any effect?
How do I sort this out?

"Level only within" is best uncheckedas it gives leveling the highest degree
of liberty.
Things you may check ?
Are all the files linked to the pool still in their original spot? If not
leveling in the pool won't be able to move their tasks.
Are the tasks free to move (i.e. no actual values, priority not 1000,
project priority not 1000?)
