In order to divide a resource's time between two different businesses with
different billing rates, you must first set those rates in the Cost Rate
tables found in the Resource Information dialog box. To do this, open the
Enterprise Resource Pool for editing, then double-click on each name in the
pool. In the Resource Information dialog box, select the Costs tab. You
will see 5 different Cost Rate tables, labeled A through E. The costs
defined on Table A represent the "typical" cost rate for the resource, and
this is the rate that is set by default for each resource assignment. The
rate on Table A should be the rate for the business for which your group
does the most work. Enter the billing rate for the other business on Table
B. You will need to enter this rate manually for every one of your
resources, and there's no automated way to do this for everyone quickly.
Now, the second piece of your puzzle is how to assign the appropriate
billing rate for each project. Here's how to accomplish this fairly
quickly:
1. Open the first project that will use the alternate billing rate defined
on Cost Rate Table B
2. Apply the Resource Usage view
3. Right-click on the column to the right of the Resource Name column, and
then click Insert Column...
4. Select the Cost Rate Table field and click OK
5. For the first resource assignment, select the appropriate Cost Rate
Table for this assignment, then press Enter
6. Click the Cost Rate Table cell for the first assignment again (to select
that cell only)
7. If all assignments in this project are billed at the same rate, "grab"
the fill handle in the lower right corner of the selected cell, and fill
down through all of the assignments in the project
8. Otherwise, you will need to manually set the correct Cost Rate Table for
each assignment
You will need to repeat this process for every project that needs the
alternate billing rate assigned. Hope this helps.
