Resource Calendar not working in project tasks

J

JimC.

I have a specific resource and have made his working calendar so that Fridays
are Non-Working days for that one resource.
However when I assign that resource to tasks the project allows those tasks
to work on Fridays.
I am trying to ensure that when that resource is assigned that the tasks
that he is assigned to will not be able to work on Fridays.
This used to work fine with MS Project 2002, but when I upgraded to MS
Project 2003, SP1 this functionality stopped working.
Any ideas on what might have happened ??

Hi JimC
Check in the Resource Sheet which calendar your resource has assigned. If
you haven't created another one Project will pick up Std. Then check Tools/
Change Working Time , for your resource name in the drop down. For non
resourced tasks Project picks up the default calendar, and for resourced
tasks it picks up the copy of the calendar for the resource.
Test it out on a small test file and expand the Gantt chart to Days .
I'd then check the default Type. If you have Fixed Units as default, when
you add the resource to the task Project will complete the task 1 day later
than the duration suggests. If fixed duration, it will complete on the day
but Work will be 1 day less. W=D times Units. Never changes.

It's very easy to inadvertantly change the hours for just one day rather
than all Fridays. Check the resource calendar and make sure every Friday is
marked non-working. Also, if this resource is one of several assigned to
the task the others can be scheduled for Friday even if this guy isn't.
Finally, double click on the task id number and view the advanced tab of the
task information sheet. If there's a task calendar assigned to it, make
sure the "task calendar overrides resource calendar" checkbox is clear.
