Resource Pool Rebuild

Has anyone rebuilt a resource pool after it's become corrupted? I've
seen very strange behaviors in ours, like cursors appearing out of
nowhere (hands away from the keyboard and mouse) and erasing data!
Seems to me I could just take all 79 projects and turn off resource
sharing, then turn it back on after I delete the old resource pool.
Would also appreciate any ideas on how to prevent instability, like
not moving projects that share resources and properly disconnecting
them when the project is over.
Anyone out there who's done this, or something like it? Any tips,
ideas?
I appreciate everyone's help.

Hi,

This is what I wrote a coupel of weeks ago (yours unfortunately is a
frequently asked question):

Hi Mark,

I know what causes it SOMETIMES, but I can't be sure this is your case as
well.
The general reason is a complete lack of disciplin in handling the pool and
the sharers
The easiest way to corrupt a pool is the following

Open a sharer without opening the pool
Connect the sharer to an other pool
Close and save
Now open the original pool "Pool and Sharers"

Another, and more common, gadget
Open a sharer and its pool
"Save As" the sharer to an other location (for instance the c disk on your
portable)
save it all
take your portable away..

(I know more but I'm not going to inspire you)

Message:
Respect the necessary rigidity of the pool and sharers environment
Don't mess around with either.

Remedy:
If you still can open the pool
Open it Read-Write (no sharers)
Tools, Resources, Share Resources
Select all
Open sharers 1 by 1
Tools, Resources, Share resources, Use own resources (CLICK THE RADIO BUTTON
EVEN IF IT IS ALREADY LIT); save
Now you can start again afresh
HTH

For one customer I even wrote a macro to refresh a resource pool - to be
used before it gets corrupt. It assumes a lot about the location of the
sharers so it may not be fit foer general use
