Resource Pool Updates- multiple

Anybody know how to fix the problem in MS Project 2003 where you can only
save one set of changes/ updates to the Resource Pool at a time? For
example, if I add a new resource and then save the Resource Pool and then try
to make another change of any kind and try to save again, I get the error
message "The File Cannot Be Opened." If I close the Resource Pool after each
change, open it again, make another change, and then save it, it works fine.

Hi Scott,
The only way I have found to work around this is to open the resource pool
with the third option "Open resource pool read-write and all other sharer
files into a new master project file......" Then I appear to be able to make
multiple edits to the resource pool file and save in between.
It does seem counterintuitive that the second option "Open resource pool
read-write......" has this "feature" but I was able to reproduce your problem
as well.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

JulieS,
Thanks a bunch! Unfortunately this causes me another problem. I get a
splash screen that says "MS Project has encountered a problem and needs to
restart." I'm using MS Project 2003 Standard, version 11.1.2004.1707.15 and
I have installed Service Pack 1. I don't know if SP1 is causing this new
adventure, but if you haven't installed it, you might want to think twice
before you do. I'm going to have our IT Department open a case with
Microsoft. If we get a solution from MS, I'll be sure to pass it on. Thanks
again.

Hi Scott,

I run MS Project 2003 Professional with SP-1. I was able to reproduce the
first problem (not saving issue with the pool file), but haven't had the
crash problems you have now encountered.

You don't mention the size of your files or whether the crash occurs only
with one specific file. It is possible that the resource pool file is either
corrupt or on its way to corruption. You may want to have a look at FAQ# 43
"File Bloat - Might be Corruption" at:
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm

Let us know how you get along. Please do let us know if you get a
resolution from Microsoft.

Hello all,

Seem to be having similar issues to the ones Scott is describing. Tried
Julie's method of opening the file under the third 'master file' option, but
that did not resolve things either.

Tried debloating the file, which worked until I opened it again and we were
back to the original file size.

What I did notice is that, although you get the 'The file cannot be opened'
error, the change or addition you're trying to make is still saved (and
multiple times, if you try to save again!).

Any other ideas on how to solve this?

I've also encountered this issue. Interesting way that I've resolved it:
create a new file name (example, put a "-a" on the end), save. Then save to
the old file name. It works!

BTW, none of my files seem to have the bloat problem ...
