Resources

Hi,
I have a master gantt of 3 files. When I open the file (the master file) I
can't see any resources in the resource sheet or resource usage.
Only after I open all the baskets (containing activities) I can see my
resources. But if I close them & save (after seeing that there are resources)
the same problem occurs again.
What do I do???

Thanks.

Hi Assaf,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

How did you create the master? You need a resource pool file, and for each
project, share the pool resources.

You might like to have a look at my series on Microsoft Project in the
TechTrax ezine, particularly #17 & 18 on multiple projects, at this site:

(Perhaps you'd care to rate the articles before leaving the site, :)
Thanks.)

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Assaf,
It's not a problem, that's the way a master file works.

When you create a dynamic master file with inserted subprojects, the
subprojects do not actually become part of the master. The master only
contains pointers to the underlying subprojects. What you will see in
the master is an insertion point summary line REPRESENTING each
subproject. The subproject behind it will not be opened until you expand
that insertion point summary line. Since you are saving the master with
subprojects collapsed, when you re-open the master, those subprojects
have not yet been opened and so no resource information is available.

Hope this helps.

Hi Glen,
Thank you for your quick response.
I've tried it (without a resource pool) in another master file and it works
just fine. I can see all my resources and manage them with no problems.
For some reson it doesn't work here.
There has to be way just to view my resources without the pool....

Thanks,
Assaf

Could it be because it's a master file of 3 other master files?

Assaf,
My guess is that in the other master file where you can see the
resources even though the subprojects are collapsed, that master has
resources of its own. The simple fact is that resources will not show up
in the master if the subprojects are not open - unless the master is a
resource pool file.
