Restrict work per day

The scenario is the following:
I have one particular task that will have to be worked overnight rather than
during regular hours. I have indicated that that task use the night
schedule. The same resources working on other tasks will be working on this
one except at a different time. However, the resources will only work either
during the night OR during the day. Project schedules both night and day
work on the same day for the same resources so they end up work double
shifts. How can I restrict the amount of work done per resource per day? I
want to schedule the overnight task on separate days as the regular time
tasks.

Hi Mark

Double click the task and on the advanced tab - apply the night calendar

Thies enforces the calendar to be applied - work can only take place when
there is overlap between the resource calendar and the task calendar

Unless you opt to ignore the resource calendar by selecting the tick box to
the right of the calendar

I have done this but the same resource will be scheduled to work double
shifts instead of Day OR Night shifts.

Hi,
Can you tell me the kind of calendar you are using for your resources, such
that i can simulte your kind of situation at my end.

Will work contouring be of use to you?
You can go to the resource usage view where time phased distribution of
resource work appears, try changing the allocated hours there and see if it
solves your purpose.
