Runtime Error

When I'm using Word I keep getting the following message:
'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error!
Program:C:\ProgramFiles\MicrosoftOffice\Office11\Winword.EXE
abnormal program termination'

Word then closes & I lose my work.

I have Office Professional Edition 2003.

Can anyone suggest how to stop this please?
