Saving a publisher document as a word template

I have a publisher document consisting of a graphic letterhead and footer.
Is there any way of converting this to a word template ( *.dot) which can
then be used as normal without two passes through the printer?

Hi Mervyn

There is no obvious way to do this, so it might take a bit of mucking
around. Here are some ideas:

1. Create a new template in Word (File > New etc, so you're looking at
"Template1"). Back in Publisher, copy the letterhead element, and in Word,
do Edit > Paste Special and paste as a picture. Repeat for the footer. At
Edit > Paste Special, you might also experiment with other paste options (eg
GIF or JPG). Choose the one that gives the best results.

2. Alternatively, in Publisher, save the whole thing as a jpg file, and then
in Word do Insert > Picture > From File and choose your jpg. Jpeg would be a
good choice if your letterhead and footer were like photographs, or included
lots of gradiants. GIF would be a better choice for line art, or if your
letterhead has big slabs of colour. If it were me, I'd also try Windows
Metafile and Enhanced Metafile. In any case, choose the file type that gives
you the best results.

In any case, you may need to set up your template so that the letterhead
appears on page 1 only. To do that, do File > Setup. On the Layout tab,
choose Different First Page. Now View > Header and Footer. Put your
letterhead elements in the "First Page Header" so it will only appear on the
first page.

Hope this helps.
