Saving Offline Using Terminal Services/Remote Desktop

I read about this topic in earlier threads, but haven't found a
solution. We currently are going international with using Project
Server and have set up a remote desktop connection to a terminal server
that accesses the Project server.

Since the Save Offline feature checks out the project and saves it
locally (C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application
Data\Microsoft\MS Project\...) on the Terminal Server, they are unable
to access it when they are disconnected from it.

Is there some kind of way to change the setting so when Save Offline is
executed, it is saved to a mapped drive? If not, is there a workaround?

Burcky-

I do not htink so. Here is what I tried: I have a Citrix installation and
I saved the file offline, went to the dirstory on the Citrix server where the
files was saved to and copied the folder to my desktop folder on my local
client. I attempted to open the project schedule in the folder I copied and
received the following error: Project is unable to open the selected offline
project... The Terminal Server admin would have to open up folders to be
shared and might pose a security risk to that server. Not sure if your
security foilks would go for that. The one thing my Citrix guy brought up
was if you can access the Terminal Server wherever you go on the Internet and
have access to work on the file from just about anywhere, why would you want
to save to the local client anyway?? Not sure if this hopes, but I tried.

Thanks for the input Kevin.

I read on earlier threads that this issue is fixed with Project Server
2007. Can anyone verify if this is true?

Thanks,
Kyle

Hi Kyle,

With the implementation of RPC over HTTP in Project Server 2007, it will
allow remote Project Pro users to connect directly to the Project Server
over the Internet. It's essentially the same technology as remote
Outlook users connecting directly to Exchange Server.

Very cool stuff!
