Say "NO" to Windows Office - Try OpenOffice

Um, this is a forum to get assistance with Microsoft Office, not O or
Star Office. If you want to extol their virtues, then post in a place
appropriate to the product being extolled.

This is not one of them.

I understand your reaction but I wanted to have this groups opinion.
At the office I use the MS Office Pack and don't deny that these
programs are good.

I use O on my Linux machine (Mandrake 9.x) and find it severely lacking
from my expectations of what an office suite should be. Even my old Lotus
SmartSuite (1999?) does things a LOT better than that program. It has a
LONG way to go for anyone who does more than prepare a simple document or
uses a simple list in a spreadsheet.

And, as I said, the lack of a PIM is a major drawback. Put in a hook to
Evolution (probably not possible now that Novell owns it) and you might
approach 25% of the functionality already existing in Microsoft Office 97.

Sorry, OO is not being "stooged" for power users but for those who need
basic office tools at a price that is just plain okay. I thoroughly support
helping someone who for whatever reason does not wish to or can not obtain
and utilized the high powered and gawdy MS creations.

Making these priced right programs available to those who would use them is
only common decency and will not cause lay offs at MS or create any
financial havoc to their organization.

When I recently came on the scene this Milly person was making an issue of a
person attempting to assist by offering the info and then belittleing the
merits of OO.

Perhaps she needs another weekend that isn't quite so "bad" precluding
propensity to mouth off at a person's attempt to help someone else.

We realize this is an MS topic board and accord it all the immense awe,
adoration and respectability it demands. However, I do not believe a boundry
is drawn which precludes a simple statement offering an alternative to
someone.
