Scheduling

I really have two questions:
1) I have work center with 21 employees that are all interchangeable. I
need to book 5 of them to a task. It looks like if there is a conflict with
capacity, the system looks for the next available white space for 5 people.
The next day I have 4 people unused but because the units assigned was 5 it
skipped over that date.
2) I have a work center with 10 people 5 on first and 5 on 2nd shift. I
have a task that should take 32 hours to complete. There are many ways to
slice this like 1 person for 8 hours for 4 days. How do I fundamentally say,
I have this work requirement and please use up all available capacity. For
example, Monday I have already consumed 2 people for 8 hours which leaves 3
people for 8 or 24 hours. How do I get the system to use the 24 hours on
first and the remaining 8 hours needed on 2nd?
Thanks,
Dave

Hi,

The answer to both questions is similar.
For leveling to be able to grab all possibilities to fit into existing
openings, the lego blocks you have to use have to be as small as possible
(or rather, as necessary)
For instance if you define 5 tasks with 1 worker each, then leveling in your
first example will use up the 4 worker capacity on day 2. One may call it a
pity but when you say you need 5 people for leveling 5 does not fit into a
hole 4 wide.
You need 2 people to carry a long ladder... one will not do it in twice the
time.
Hope this helps,
