Searching On Switchboard?

Melissa

Hi there

I have created a Windscreen repair database, and Im now modifying the
switchboard.

I would like the following information to be on the s/board:

1. Search By Company - This is a drop down list, when a company is
selected, it opens that specific company in
the "Company" Form.

2. Search By Client - This is the same as the "Search By
Company' Drop down, except it opens the
"Clients" Form

3. Search By Reg - This is going to be a text box, where
the user enters the Vehicle Registration number
they are looking for, and
after they have entered it, they click on an "ok' button next to
the text box, which brings up a "search by vehicle Reg" screen, which
includes the following
fields from the "Jobs" form:
1. Name
2. Make (car make)
3. MOdel
4. Date (date
of job)
5. Reg
(VehicleReg)
6. Dealer
(dealership where car was being serviced)

Now when this "search by vehicleReg" form is opened, it needs to display the
"VehicleReg" that you are searching for at the top of the screen, and then
it needs to list the above fields for all the clients who's vehicle
registration number is close, or exactly what is being searched for. For
example., if the user types in WWV123GP as the reg they are searching for,
the "SearchbyReg" form needs to display all records matching or close to,
for eg: VWW123GP, or VPW123GP, it needs to matching at least 2 of the
letters in the reg, but not necessariily match the numbers, but it would be
great if it could search for all reg's which include the WWV, and the 123
part of the reg.

Then, once the SearchByReg form brings up matching results to what the user
is searching for, there will be an ok button next to each record to open the
one you wish to open.

I have included as much info as I though could help explain this better. I
hope its not confusing.

Thank YOu in advance

Hi Melissa,
Do you have a specific question?

One suggestion I have is to remove a couple of intermediary forms and
incorporate them on the Switchboard. For example that dropdown for
SearchByCompany can be on the Switchboard form. It would make for a
smoother user experience.

Hi Tom

My apologies for my question being so confusing.

What I would like to know, is how to create the following:

when i searchByReg on the switchboard via a drop down, i would like a
seperate form to open which lists
all the records close to the VehicleReg i have searched for.. it should
match all the letters in the vehicleREg, for ex if i type WWV123GP, it
should bring up all the records who's VehicleREg is close to or exactly
that. like WVW123GP, and VWW123GP should all come up in a block with their
other info - like client name, date of job, etc. When the user finds the
correct record in that block, they should be able to click on the ok button
which appears next to each record, which would then open that specific job
in the jobs form.

the reason for bringing up all vehicleReg's which are also close to the
search, is that the user may have entered the clients VehicleReg
incorrectly, therefore, by viewing all the VehicleReg's close to the one
they are searching for - you can see which client is associated which that
Reg.

I hope this makes sense

Thank You

Melissa
