Select and Copy text

A feature that I frequently need - but doesn't seem to be available - is the
ability to Select text and Copy.

Most pages that I 'add' to OneNote are done via the Printer driver and the
result is a non-editable page, i.e. an graphical object. Am I missing
something or is there really no way to Mark/Select text and Copy?

TIA

For things printed to OneNote, try this:
Right click the page. Select "Copy text from page" from the menu. Move to
the right of the page. Paste. OneNote will paste what it recognizes from the
text. If you need to make changes, edit the text. Changes won't show in the
original graphic, but they will be searchable.

But just to be sure something is clear: You don't need to do the above
process to make the text in the page searchable. OneNote will recognize the
text when the picture/printout is added.

Kathy,

Thanks for the good tip. Initially, there was no Menu choice for Copy
Text, but after a bit of experimenting I was able to get it to work. In
previous attempts I had tried this feature, without success, so I'd have to
say it could be more obvious - maybe the next version ;).

Thanks again for the help.

Glad you were able to get it to work. Sounds like I need to do a screen cast
on this feature for my blog. (If someone else doesn't beat me to it!)

Kathy,
I have been struggling with copy and paste from one note documents as
printouts for a while. This is the one feature that is lacking. If you can
copy and paste a "paragraph" (which equates to a page of printed material,
right), then why wouldn't microsoft allow you to select the text? I guess it
has something to do with the printout as an image. But there Onenote
recognizes the text so it should be able to select the text, no?

My belief is that until you do the copy paste from page, that image's
content is only in the "index" not really available to be used. I also think
that while it would be nice to be able to grab a paragraph or two out of the
image and just convert that, I don't think it is going to be happening
anytime soon.

Right now, the copy text from image works on a page at a time. Like you, I
would love if there were a way to work on a smaller segment of the image at
a time, but don't see it happening.
