Selecting only part of a shape to fill

Is this possible? I have several circles that overlap at various points and
I'd like to fill in only certain areas where they overlap. Is this possible?

No, unfortunately this is not possible. I have been looking for such a
solution, too. A colleague draw 2 and 3 circles for me in Illustrator and
saved them as WMF files which can be used like ClipArts and recolored. If
that might be a solution for you, Mary Sauer offers them for download:
