send and receive error message

I have used Outlook 2002 for a few years without problems. I just got a computer with Outlook 2003. The test signal for the email account account settings (POP3) worked fine . I can not however send or receive messages. When I attempt to send or receive I get a message: "the operation failed and object can not be found". I am not attempting to embed an object. What am I doing wrong?
