send word doc to be edited

I need to send a word doc back and forth between myself and my assistant to
edit and reedit. Is there a way to do this were the dodc doesn't have to be
resaved to the hard dirve with the new changes and then emailed back. Maybe
have it on the email which only has to be opened edited then replied to.
