sending a fax

Yes I am trying to send a fax via email and I do not want to have to pay for
a service that I will only use once. I am at a loss here and could use some
help. I am using Vista and the doc I must send is in Word 2003.

Not sure what you mean by "send a fax via email". You can send a fax.
You can send an email with your Word 2003 document attached. Okay, it's
a stretch, but since a fax is a multipage .tif file, you could print
your Word 2003 file to your Microsoft Office Document Imaging printer
driver to create an .mdi file (kinda like a .tif file), and then send an
email with the .mdi file attached (but the recipient must have Office
2003 or 2007 to read the attachment).

There are fax machines (and MFPs) that "fax to email" by creating PDFs
(they're just graphics, not editable text) and attaching them to emails. My
brother the lawyer is always sending me these abominations.

Thank You Garfield and Suzanne for trying to help. I am computer dumb to be
honest. What I was trying to do is send a fax with my computer. I do not have
a fax machine. And the party I needed to send a Resume to has a fax machine
but no email. It was just one person so I dont and probly will not sighn up
for one of them 10 bucks a month email to fax sites. I hope I gave enough
information for you all to help me. I am sure both of you are pointing me in
the correct direction but I probly am not smart enough to see it. Thank You
Shawn

So what you really want is email-to-fax, then, I suppose. I'm not sure that
this can be done without an outside service unless the fax machine has an
email address (which is by no means impossible).

Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium do include the Windows Fax and
Scan feature that you need to fax from your computer. You can upgrade
to the Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise edition of Windows Vista to get
the Windows Fax and Scan feature. Or you can use a third-party
Vista-compatible fax application such Snappy Fax 4.0 from
http://www.snappysoftware.com/ . Of course you will need a faxmodem and
an analog phone line too.

For a one-time deal like this, you might save yourself a bunch of time
by going to a business center at a larger hotel or convention facility
where you can pay them to fax the document for you. Some stores like
Office Depot, FedEx Kinko's, the UPS Store, internet cafes, and mailbox
stores may also provide fax services for a fee.

Oops... I meant to say "Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium do *not*
include..."
