Sent Attachment Shows up as a *.dat file

When I send attachments they end up as *.dat files on the recipient's
computer.

When they reply and let me know and I reply with the attachment it goes
through fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Change message format to plain text or html and consider disabling Word as
your e-mail editor. (all done at tools > options > mail format)

Sending mail in Rich Text Format will ALWAYS attach as winmail.dat.
It's just a quirk of Microsoft products, from a long way back. You'll get it if you don't Use OL or OE.

When THEY reply, it's likely in HTML or plain text, so when YOU reply to that, you keep their existing format.
