Sequential sounds

I have a Web page containing two .wav files as background sounds. How can I
get the second one to play after the first one, rather than the two playing
at the same time?

Correction: The .wav files are not on the page as background sounds.
They are inserted in the body of the page in two places. They both
play when the page loads. How can I make them play separately?
