Service pack 3 won't install

My Outlook programme hangs constantly and shows as not responding when I open
the Task Manager. When I allowed the error report I was directed via a pop
up to Microsoft as this was a common problem and the solution may require
updates. I went to the Microsoft web page and after a search was advised I
needed S/P 3. When I accepted another window opened asking me to wait whilst
the installation wizard loads. Another pop up then sprang up from Microsoft
telling me the browser was seeking to close this window and did I agree.
Whichever option I chose then the window either stayed open and did nothing
or reverted to the update page with my recommended update to be accepted
again. Help!
